New SEC Draft Strategic Plan

In June of 2018 the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) released a draft strategic plan that prioritized investors, innovation, and performance. The plan will guide the SEC’s actions and goals through 2022.

The plan is in accordance with the Government Performance and Results Modernization Act of 2010, which mandates that all federal agencies outline missions and goals for four-year periods.

SEC Chairman Jay Clayton said, “This plan focuses on the most important goals and initiatives that will best position the SEC to fulfill our mission of protecting investors, ensuring fair, orderly, and efficient markets and facilitating capital formation.”

The new plan highlights three major goals that will be the SEC’s main focus in the upcoming years:

  • Focus on the long-term interests of Main Street investors
  • Adjust efforts and resource allocation in relation to developments in our evolving market
  • Enhance overall SEC performance through human capital development and advanced analytical capabilities

The SEC is seeking public comment on the draft.
